Financial Assistance for Developing Youth Sailors
To encourage the development of young and lifetime sailors, several charitable organizations provide grants to help with the costs of learning and competing in sailing activities. Two such funds are listed below: The Helen Hanley Memorial Fund and the Lee Bradley Young Mariners Fund provide financial assistance to encourage young sailors to pursue their interest in sailing. Typical of many of these charitable funds, expenses are reimbursed following participation in a training certification program or participation in a regatta. If you are considering applying for financial assistance, contact the granting organization prior to the event or training to understand requirements and retain receipts that can be submitted with your application for reimbursement.
The Helen Hanley Memorial Fund is managed by the South Atlantic Yacht Racing Association (SAYRA) and offers grants to encourage SAYRA members to:

Participate in US Sailing Regional and National Championship events,

Conduct and encourage participation in US Sailing Training Programs, especially those directed principally toward the development of the sailing abilities of our youth and the training of youth instructors, and

Compete at a National Level in the Optimist sailboat.
Applicants (or their sailing club) must be SAYRA members and have participated in one of the three target areas for reimbursement. Additional information is found at South Atlantic Yacht Racing Association - Helen Hanley Fund.
The Lee Bradley Young Mariners Fund was established in memory of past Atlanta Yacht Club (AYC) Commodore Lee Bradley (2002) who understood that launching a successful sailing campaign requires a diverse skill set, particularly financial support. Applicants must be members of the Atlanta Yacht Club (AYC). This fund can be used to reimburse regatta registration fees (excluding meals and travel) for up to three regattas per individual each year, as well as to promote their ongoing knowledge of sailing and boating.
